STUDENT VISA

Tens of thousands of students travel to Australia to study every year and the process to obtain a visa differs depending on their country of origin.
In July 2001 the Student Visa system changed and countries of origin were divided into five assessment levels. At the time of application, varying conditions have to be met, depending on the assessment level given to your country. In limited cases, it is still possible to lodge an application in Australia for a first visa, however the majority must be lodged offshore.
It is now possible for Overseas Students to lodge an application while in Australia for Permanent Residence on completion of a course, providing they have completed a course of no less than two years’ duration, that course leads to the award of a certificate, diploma or degree, and they meet the points test. After an application is lodged the applicant is able to remain in Australia and work full-time while the application is being assessed.
However, very strict conditions apply for this and you should make absolutely sure you are able to apply. The staff at IVAS are familiar with the government regulations in this area, and we can provide excellent advice and assistance to you in lodging your application. We can also assist young people to establish a stable home life in an unfamiliar land.
