FAMILY VISA

Family members can be sponsored into Australia if they meet the right criteria. Those family members who may be eligible include:
Spouse
| Parents
| Dependent Children
| Remaining Relatives | |
and a number of others.
The Australian government is constantly reviewing eligibility and the definitions used under this visa category, and these are often changed. IVAS ensures that we have the most up-to-date information on all visa categories and can provide this to you.
Spouse Visas make up the majority of these applications and have the potential to cause most problems. The cause lays in the definition of ‘spouse’ and most people’s belief that once a couple are married, an application must be approved. This is often not the case and you can expect rigorous scrutiny of your application.
Parent Visas have recently been reviewed with a new visa arrangement, the Contributory Parent visa having been introduced in June 2003. The new contributory parent visa allows a further 3,500 parents in a full year to migrate on the basis of a higher health charge and social security bond.
Those Parent Visas which existed prior to June 2003, i.e. for Aged Parents and for parents of working age, remain available. As there are considerably more places available for parents under the Contributory Parent category, applicants can expect to receive a visa more quickly for this new visa than applications for the existing categories.
